Alan Henning, a former taxi driver from Manchester, has been held by IS militants since he was kidnapped in December last year.
The 47-year-old was volunteering as an aid worker to take supplies to the war-torn country when he was captured.
In a new statement released by the Foreign Office today, his wife Barbara said: “An audio file of Alan pleading for his life has just been received by me.
“I and people representing me continue to reach out to those holding Alan.
“Islamic State continue to ignore our pleas to open dialogue.
