A large convoy of suspected Boko Haram gunmen carrying grenade launchers have conducted a midday raid on the north-eastern Nigerian town of Nafada, targeting police and the military before robbing a bank and destroying a political office.
The attack in Gombe state began with a gunfight at a military checkpoint on the outskirts of Nafada, where the gunmen overpowered soldiers and police before moving into the town.
“They came in large numbers in vans and on motorcycles, shouting Allahu Akbar (God is greater),” said resident Abubakar Galda.
