US Congress Narrowly Avoids Government Shutdown

Congress has a last minute vote, to avoid a federal government shutdown.  Opposition came from conservative Republicans and from left-wing Democrats outraged over a provision to unwind a key aspect of banking reform.  From Washington, Daniel Ryntjes reports.

Mudflows spur evacuations in Southern California

More than 100 homes have been evacuated after rain caused mudflows in two Southern California areas stripped bare by wildfire. It's California's biggest storm in five years dubbed the “Pineapple express” and they are in for more!  Rachel Silverman is in San Francisco.

EU states lobbied hard by Moscow over sanctions

European Union countries thought to be sympathetic to Russia are being targeted by a Moscow lobbying push to veto new EU sanctions - in place for what the West sees as Russia's part in the Ukraine crisis.  Hungary, Cyprus and Italy are thought to be the most Russia-friendly with a renewal of the measures set for the new year.  Our Europe correspondent Jack Parrock reports.

UK spoke to US pre-publication of CIA interrogation report

UK intelligence officials spoke to counterparts in the US before the publication of a report in to interrogation tactics used by the CIA, says the British government.  It said requests made regarding any mention of the UK in the report were because of "national security."   The Prime Minister David Cameron's office had previously said it had not asked for information relating to Britain to be left out. Our UK correspondent Natalie Feary reports…. 

US Shuts its last Detention Centre in Afghanistan

The US has shut its last detention facility in Afghanistan.  Officials have also confirmed there are no more prisoners there, ending a much-criticized chapter in Washington's fight against Islamic extremism. From Washington Verity Geere reports.

In 1980, he blazed a path as a pioneer in local cable television advertising when CNN and ESPN were new start-up channels on cable TV.  As a sales manager, he launched one of the first cable advertising interconnects in the nation.  He was hired in 1984 by the Christian Broadcasting Network as the first National Cable Marketing Manager for the new CBN Cable Network which later became the Family Channel.  In 1995, Paul F. Crouch hired Rick as the Marketing Director for Trinity Broadcasting Network where Rick repositioned the TBN brand inside the cable industry – and played an important role in negotiating the early contracts to launch TBN on DirecTV, DISH, and the former PrimeStar DBS systems.  Rick resigned from TBN in September 1998 after receiving a dramatic call from God to fulltime ministry.
